Construction of Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway to start in Pakistan in 2014


Minister of Statesfor Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed said construction work on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9) would be started in 2014. The minister said it was very important road which links all the industrial cities to port. He said that in 2010 the ECNEC had asked the government to award funds for the project and also said that to construct it on public private partnership. M-9 was a four lane road and it would be converted to six lanes. The Prime Minister has strictly asked the government to complete the project as soon as possible.
He said that the government has directed the National Highways Authority (NHA) to complete the M-9 project on the basis of BoT. The minister also informed that five national and international companies have showed their interest to complete the project. Sheikh Aftab said that the government also demanded the bid from the companies and hoped that the process would be completed in April 2014.
